Tragedy Bathroom & "The Cellar Trolls"
Basement Restoration — Plumbing & Tile Project — Brighton, CO
This is a true story. No sooner had I moved here to Colorado than the house I was living in had a big problem: plumbing in the basement failed. Four people live in the house, two of them downstairs in basement bedrooms; we call them the cellar trolls. But the cellar trolls had a nice bathroom of their own that went pretty haywire.
Once the lines were scoped, we found that they were crumbling. The repair meant jackhammering the floor, reaching the failed plumbing beneath it, and putting the bathroom back together. We also removed the old flooring and shower liner to prepare for new tile.
The Reconstruction
The vanity was damaged too, so we removed it and replaced the sink. After the plumbing repairs and new concrete were in place, we prepared the floor and shower for tile and completed the bathroom update.
Tile Day & Final Result
We installed furring strips and waterproof boards in the shower before tiling it, then tiled the floor and replaced the damaged vanity and sink. The finished bathroom gave the cellar trolls a space they were happy to call their own.
